Keyword intent classifier
Find the right page type for a Shopify keyword before creating or editing anything.
Enter a keyword or search phrase. The classifier identifies the likely search intent and recommends whether to target it with a collection, product page, buying guide or hub.
The wrong page type for a keyword is one of the most expensive Shopify SEO mistakes — it is only visible in Search Console months later.

The four Shopify page types and when each wins
Collection pages win for category-level commercial queries: the shopper knows what type of product they want but has not chosen one. "Women's trail running shoes", "waterproof winter jackets" and "professional kitchen knives" are collection intent queries. The collection page earns the category term; individual products rank for specific model or variant queries.
Product pages win for specific product queries: model names, SKUs, very specific specifications. "Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit", "14-inch widescreen laptop bag in black" and "Stanley 1L adventure quencher" are product intent queries. These shoppers have made their decision — they are looking for the exact product and want to buy.
Buying guides and articles win for comparison and research queries: the searcher is still in the decision phase, comparing options, learning about a category, or solving a problem. "Best running shoes for flat feet", "how to migrate WooCommerce to Shopify", "is Shopify better than WordPress for SEO" are informational or comparison queries. A collection page cannot answer these well; a guide can.
Hub pages win for broad topic queries where the searcher wants an overview and navigation point into a topic. "Shopify SEO", "Shopify migration" and "WooCommerce to Shopify" are hub-level queries. These pages work as entry points that link to the specific guides and tools within the cluster.
Why page type matters more than optimisation
A collection page optimised for a research query will rank temporarily if the competition is weak, but it will not convert — the page cannot answer the question the searcher is asking. A product page targeting a category query will not rank at all in most cases, because Google understands that a single product is not the right answer for a category intent search.
The classifier uses language signals — words, phrase structure, modifiers and context — to predict the most likely intent. It is a starting point, not a verdict. Always validate with actual Search Console data and a review of what is currently ranking for the query before building or rewriting a page.
